An alternative (and occasional) music posting highlighting something out of the ordinary. Perhaps of limited appeal, unconventional, experimental or just far-out ! Call it what you like (or switch it off, if you don't like).
Saw these guys last month and a brilliant evening was had by all. The 'Transatlantic Sessions', funded by BBC Scotland, BBC4 & RTE of Ireland, have been bringing musicians together for the last 25 years in live performances by various leading folk, bluegrass and country musicians from both sides of the North Atlantic, playing music from Scotland, Ireland, England and North America. Here we have (in order of appearance):- Jerry Douglas: lap steel guitar, John Doyle: left hand guitarist, Aly Bain: fiddle, John McCusker: fiddle, Donald Shaw: piano, Mike McGoldrick: flute, Donal Lunny left handed bouzouki, James Mackintosh: Drummer, Phil Cunningham: accordion, and on double bass it looks like Danny Thompson. For St. Patrick's Day it's 'The Glass of Beer' >

I never knew a much loved former Yankee baseball player was also an accomplished musician, guitar player and composer. As a result Bernie Williams (is coming along for the drive, I'm reliably told by Margaret) - it is perfect driving music for sure.
From his album 'Moving Forward' here's my favourite track 'He Reigns':
Some great guitar playing, that's more rock than jazz (nice), however more representative is 'M's' favourite 'Ritmo de Otono' > www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKp1JEhfOrA
Both pieces written by Bernie.

I'm going to try and cover some Fridays, while I'm 'jolling' around South Africa during March, with a combination of music that I anticipate may well accompany the driving and a video of a road I know we'll travel on.
That's were we start on Clarence Drive (R44) around picturesque Gordon's Bay (some 50 kms east of Cape Town, overlooking False Bay). I mention this though the video will show you what I mean. Great footage, not from behind the wheel, which makes a change, beautifully set to a piece of music played by Brooklyn Duo (Marnie Laird on piano & Patrick Laird on cello) playing a cover of the song 'Symphony' by Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson.
That's the detail, let's hit the road, no speeding now
